Senior and Social Services

Town of Canton >> Departments >> Senior and Social Services >> Senior and Social Services

In consultation with Town of Canton leadership and the Farmington Valley Health District, we have made the decision to close the Canton Senior Center to the public indefinitely effective Monday, March 16, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior & Social Services staff will still be working though the Senior Center is closed, and will be available to help by E-mail or phone call.

*Dine in CT, a locally owned and operated CT based business, has partnered with Senior & Social Services to help feed our Canton families. Meals will be delivered to those in need, and Dine in CT personally vets their delivery personnel as well as offering "no contact" deliveries. If your family could benefit or you know of a local family that may be in need, please reach out directly to Jessica DeMeo, Director of Senior & Social Services at: Jdemeo@townofcantonct.org to be referred to Dine in CT for further assistance.

*The Canton Senior Center is delivering CRT’s “Grab and Go” Lunches. Seniors must call at the beginning of the week, Monday by 12-noon to reserve their lunch for Wednesday and/or Friday each week. If we do not answer, Please leave a message.

*The Salvation Army has set up an Emotional & Spiritual Care Hotline for anyone who needs a listening ear. Call 844-458-4673 from 9AM - 9PM seven days a week. Trained Salvation Army Officers and employees are available to talk, advise, and above all pray for individuals and families.

*All AARP Tax appointments have been cancelled indefinitely.  Please see the attached AARP Tax Aide Program Suspension Letter or call the AARP Tax Aide Program at
1-877-227-7669 for questions regarding their free tax appointments program.

*If you have any essential needs that are not being met, please call our office at 860-693-5811 and we will do our best to assist you.

We encourage you to follow all guidelines to keep yourselves and your community healthy: wash your hands frequently and thoroughly; stay home when you are sick except to get medical care; clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and objects; maintain a 3-6 foot distance from other people when out in public; and keep abreast of current federal, state, and local guidelines from the CDC (cdc.gov), the Connecticut Department of Public Health (ct.gov/coronavirus), and the Farmington Valley Health District (www.fvhd.org).

We look forward to seeing you all again once we are able to re-open.

Be Well,
Jessica DeMeo
Senior & Social Services Director
