Canton Village List
Known for many years as Bidwell’s Tavern, this simple Greek revival house was purchased by the Bristols in 1886 when it was River Dale Farm. Anson Bristol was a dairy farmer and grew much of his own food. He raised sheep and pigs, grew tobacco and vegetables, made butter, cured bacon and cut ice on a pond nearby. For the last several years the land has been rented to farmers who grow truck crops and maintain a farm stand.
