At the junction of Torrington Avenue and Collins Road, this house was built about 1850. It was known as the “Gate House” because a gate then closed Collins Road which was a private drive to Samuel Collins’ estate. Samuel Collins’ house burned in 1912, the victim of arson during an attempted murder. Calvary Cemetery now occupies that site.
