Home Safety Reminder from Canton Police, Fire, Ambulance, Fire Marshal, and Social Services Office

Properly posting highly visible property numbers on Canton residences and business properties will allow for prompt response and service from the police, fire, ambulance, fire marshal and social services departments. On many occasions, time is of the essence when an emergency response is needed.

  • Numbers should be visible from the street, reflective, and at least 3 inches in height;
  • Consider posting both sides of your mailbox or other permanent fixture, to ensure the approaching emergency service provider can identify the house regardless of travel direction; and
  • Snowplow barriers protecting mailboxes should also be posted.

The Town of Canton Ordinance Section 375-17 specifically addresses the requirement for such posting.
