4/8/2013 - *Children's Library Room Will Be Closed During Renovation

During the month of April, the interior of the Canton Public Library will be receiving a much-needed re-painting. It will be the first time the library has been repainted since opening at its Dyer Avenue location in December 1999. This project may take as long as three weeks to complete and will cause some disruption to library service, but we hope to keep the disruption as minimal and as quick as possible.

Please note the following:

The repainting will begin on Monday, April 8.

The paint being used is considered low fume and quick-drying, but please be forewarned that the paint still will carry a smell that some people may find objectionable.

For approximately four to six days of the project, the Children's Room will be repainted. We will have to close the Children's Room to everyone except staff and maintenance personnel during the time the painters are working there. The height of walls and ceilings will require the use of both scaffolding and ladders, and this, combined with paint containers, paint chips on the floor, and the necessary movement of furniture, equipment, and collection items will make the Children's Room unsafe for patron use.

The approximate date for the closing of the Children's Room is Tuesday, April 9 through Tuesday, April 16. Be assured that we will re-open the space as soon as we are able to do safely.

Note that our staff will be happy to retrieve any books or other materials that library visitors need while the Children's Room is closed to the public.

Also during the repainting, we will suspend children's programming. However, note that other local libraries have offered Canton residents space at many of their programs. A list of story times, school-age programs, and vacation week events at the Simsbury, Farmington, and Burlington libraries is available at the Canton Public Library.

During the time the Children's Room is closed, we are asking that no child under the age of 16 visit the library without an accompanying adult.

During the closing of the Children's Room, but possibly at other points in the project as well, our space will be reduced and the availability of public computers may be somewhat less. We will appreciate your patience and cooperation with us and with other library users during these weeks. The repainting will be concluded as soon as possible!
