5/30/2023 - Volunteers needed for the Temporary Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee
The Board of Selectmen are looking for residents who are interested in serving in the Town’s Temporary Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee.

Policy and Purpose
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee (Committee) advises the Board of Selectmen about Canton’s Traffic and Transportation needs.  The purpose of the Committee is to make recommendations to improve the safety and effectiveness of all modes of travel within Canton, including roadways, bikeways and walkways.

Composition
A.  The initial term of the Committee will be two years unless dissolved or extended by a vote of the Board of Selectmen. The two-year term shall begin on the initial meeting of the Committee.
B.  The Committee shall have seven members. The Committee shall elect a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary at its initial meeting.
C.  The Committee will work closely with Town staff, including but not limited to the Chief of Police, Director of Public Works and the Director of Planning and Community Development. 

Duties
The Committee shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
A.  Identify traffic and transportation safety concerns and make recommendations for improvements;
B.  Develop marketing and educational programs that communicate to the public proper transportation safety procedures and the need for additional safety measures;
C.  Advise the Board of Selectmen on the implementation of policies such as “Complete Street” or “Vision Zero” that increase driver, pedestrian, and cyclist safety through a variety of measures and recommend policy changes when appropriate; and
D.  Advocate on the local, state and federal level for funding, infrastructure and policy changes that will make all forms of transportation safer in Canton.
