12/24/2020 - Dec 24 + 25 Winter Weather - Message from Canton Police

Canton Residents: Strong winds and heavy rain are forecast for later today (December 24) and continuing into tomorrow (December 25).  There are power outage concerns that may result from this weather. Eversource has indicated that restoration could take between 2-6 days.
As such, the Town of Canton encourages all residents to take steps now to prepare. Below are two lists that residents should review and utilize if necessary. The first list is for sheltering in place. The second list is if you decide to use the town’s Emergency shelter.
First: All residents should have an ‘Emergency Supply Kit’ of items at their place of residence:
Water—one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
Food—non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home), canned or sealed packaged food
Flashlight
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
Extra batteries
First aid kit
Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
Multi-purpose tool
Sanitation and personal hygiene items
Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
Cell phone with chargers
Family and emergency contact information
Extra cash
Emergency blanket
Map(s) of the area
Consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit. Suggested items to help meet additional needs are:
Extra set of car keys and house keys
Manual can opener-paper plates, utensils
Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc)
Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
Games and activities for children
Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)

Second: If the town declares a state of emergency and opens the town shelter, all residents should be aware of the following “Canton Emergency Shelter GO Kit” guidelines:

*Ensure there are sufficient quantities for you and each family member
*Personal Identification
*Canned Food or Packaged food in original container
