6/26/2020 - A Message from Superintendent of Schools Kevin Case 6/26/20

Dear Canton Community Members:

I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to let you know that Governor Lamont and Connecticut Commissioner of Education Cardona announced guidelines for the reopening of schools in the fall at a press conference this afternoon.  While the full guidance will not be released until next Monday, I wanted you to be aware that we have been working over the last few weeks on a reopening plan for the Canton Public Schools. We have established a Reopening Task Force and now that the guidelines have been released, we will be establishing working groups on Teaching and Learning, Systems and Operations, and Student and Staff Safety and Wellness.

Given the current guidelines, all of our students will return to school on Wednesday, August 26th for a full day of school, five days a week. I assure you that we will provide both students and staff a safe learning environment as we return to school. We will be working around the clock over the next few weeks on our reopening plan. I expect to be able to share the plan with you by early August so that you can plan accordingly. More information will be forthcoming!

I am also pleased to announce that the Board of Education has appointed Jon Bishop to the position of Director of Learning and Innovation effective July 1st. Jon has served our District for the last five years as the District K-12 STEM Coordinator. Prior to coming to Canton, Jon served as the Director of the Middle School at The Master's School in West Simsbury. He also served as an Elementary Teacher and Gifted and Talented Specialist in Texas and Montana. Jon earned his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction

Jon brings to this position a wealth of knowledge on 21st century learning skills and has proven himself to be an outstanding instructional leader.

I know you will join me in congratulating Jon on this appointment.

I hope you enjoy the beginning weeks of summer with your family. Please be looking for continuous updates from me over the summer.

Stay positive and stay safe!
Sincerely,
Kevin D. Case
Superintendent of Schools
