12/13/2019 - Canton launches a new town website!

The Town of Canton has launched a new town website aimed at improving access to information. The new site offers better navigation, greater readability for sight-impaired individuals, and ready access to events, policies and records of public meetings. The site also introduces a new online application feature for land use permits.

“Town websites have become workhorses for our residents and are often the first place they look for information,” said Robert Bessel, First Selectman, Town of Canton, Connecticut. “Having easily accessible information about the many aspects of our town is a must for today’s e-connected public.”

Canton’s new website has been a year in the making, starting with marketing and branding efforts by the Canton Economic Development Agency, and work by a dedicated team of town employees who populated the web platform provided by QScend Technologies of Waterbury. The new site was released to the public on December 13, 2019.

The new site provides quick links to popular topics, multiple calendars (town, community, recreation, senior services and library), wide-screen displays for mobile and desktop devices and a host of navigational aids. Among these aids is a “How Can We Help You” menu designed to help web visitors find the information they’re looking for by anticipating their questions.

Visitors to the site will also enjoy links to a photo tour of town, a Walking Tour of Collinsville, Driving Tours of Historic Canton, plus feeds to social media platforms.

“We were very focused on making the website easier to use,” said Linda Smith, Town Clerk, Town of Canton Connecticut.  “Prior to the change, we had an average of 6000 unique visits each month to our site. This fresh, professional-looking website should generate more traffic and reflect even more positively on our town government, the community and its people.”
