Canton Land Trust Invites All to March 20 Annual Dinner

The Canton Land Conservation Trust invites members and non-members to its Tues. March 20 Annual Dinner and Silent Auction, featuring guest speaker Patrick Comins, Executive Director of the Connecticut Audubon Society.

Mr. Comins will talk about the history of forestlands in Connecticut and how a better understanding of the birdlife in our forests can help us to optimally manage our forested lands for nesting birds and other associated wildlife. Mr. Comins was part of the team that helped to assess the Canton Land Conservation Trust’s Sun, Wind and Woodland Preserve as part of his former duties with Audubon Connecticut in 2016.

The evening will begin at La Trattoria Restaurant in Canton with a 6 p.m. silent auction and cash bar, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and Mr. Comins’ talk at 8 p.m. The cost is $40 for members, $45 for non-members and $20 for the talk only. Mr. Comins is Executive Director of the Connecticut Audubon Society. He is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford and has worked in the bird conservation field for over 20 years. He began his career with the Connecticut Audubon Society undertaking bird surveys at the McKinney National Wildlife Refuge, then as a biological technician for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the McKinney Refuge. He then served as Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon Connecticut for nearly 17 years before coming to the Connecticut Audubon Society. He is a past president of the Connecticut Ornithological Association and has written several articles on bird conservation and identification for the Association’s quarterly publication, The Connecticut Warbler. He is a member of the Connecticut Forest Practices Advisory Board, a position appointed by the Governor, and a founding member and past chair of the Friends of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.

The Canton Land Conservation Trust is a non-profit conservation organization formed in 1972 to acquire, preserve and protect land of scenic, natural or historic value within the Town of Canton; to maintain this land and its plant and animal life using the best conservation, wildlife habitat and forestry practices available; and to promote public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the land. The Land Trust manages more than 2,000 acres in Canton.
