3/22/2016 - Become a Friend of the Flower Bridge!

Canton’s Flower Bridge

The summer of 2015 marked the creation of a unique and picturesque landmark for the town of Canton. In early July, the wooden walking bridge, located along the Farmington River on River Road in Collinsville, was transformed by the installation of a beautiful floral display. A series of eleven hand-forged iron hooks, eleven hanging flower baskets and three stationary planters were installed on the bridge thanks to the generous support of our founding sponsors. Canton Main Street, Inc., the originating organization for this project, is especially grateful to the Cherry Brook Garden Club, Rotary Club of Avon-Canton, Farmington Valley Trails Council, Collinsville Savings Society, Shop Rite of Canton, and the Canton Shoppes who contributed more than 90% of the start-up funds for this community project. We are also very thankful to all the businesses and individuals who provided additional donations which helped to make this inaugural year a resounding success.

In early December we created a winter display on the bridge using evergreen plantings and holiday kissing balls. Plans to continue and advance this beautification project are currently underway. Our planning efforts are now focused on the spring of 2016. We anticipate replanting the flower baskets and planters along the bridge and refreshing the display as the seasons change. A drip irrigation system, to maintain the plantings, is also scheduled for installation in the spring. We are excited to share this comprehensive plan which will help to spotlight Canton’s unique character and natural beauty. We hope you find an opportunity to enjoy the spectacular river views framed by these ever-changing floral displays.

At this time, we are seeking sponsors for the 2016 planting season to help defray the cost of the plantings and to ensure the continuing success of this beautification project. If you were a sponsor last year, please consider participating again this year. If you haven’t been a sponsor yet, we invite you to become a “Friend of the Flower Bridge.” All contributions are tax deductible and will be used to purchase flowers for the seasonal displays. Donations of $250 will sponsor a hanging basket and holiday kissing ball; $100 will sponsor a holiday kissing ball. Contributions of any amount are truly appreciated and go directly into sustaining the floral displays.

Looking for a way to remember a special someone or to commemorate a special occasion? Consider a gift of sponsorship as a “Friend of the Flower Bridge.”
