3/25/2018 - Explore Colonial Farmland with Canton Land Trust March 25

Historical use of Canton land for farming is the focus of a hike of the Canton Land Conservation Trust’s Barbour Woods Trail, Sun. March 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Hike leader and Land Trust Director Nate Cantwell will discuss the history of several colonial era farms that hikers will traverse, including distributing historical research and maps.

This is a moderately difficult, one-and-a-half hour hike. Wear sturdy walking shoes, and please leave dogs at home. In case of bad weather, check www.cantonlandtrust.org for possible postponement.

Directions: The hike will begin at the Sun, Wind and Woodlands Preserve. From Route 44, turn onto Indian Hill Road. Continue 1.4 miles to the end. Turn right on Breezy Hill Road and continue about .5 miles. About 100 yards past a red house on the left, turn left into the unpaved parking lot. Directions are also on the Land Trust website.

The Canton Land Conservation Trust is a non-profit conservation organization formed in 1972 to acquire, preserve and protect land of scenic, natural or historic value within the Town of Canton; to maintain this land and its plant and animal life using the best conservation, wildlife habitat and forestry practices available; and to promote public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the land. The Land Trust is the steward of approximately 2,000 acres of natural land.
